MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT
SELFA offers a variety of support to children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health needs across Craven. This is delivered through one-to-one and group support in schools and community settings.
Children and young people supported by SELFA have often had adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) which research shows are strongly linked to depression and anxiety.
A calm, safe space to talk
Our Children & Young People’s Workers are passionate about providing early intervention support. They provide a calm, safe space to help the child or young person create positive coping strategies, explore and understand difficult emotions, and engage in peer support.
One-to-one support
Mentoring
Early intervention for mild mental health problems. A series of planned, 1-1 sessions where the young person sets an achievable target and are supported by a SELFA worker to create strategies to help achieve this. Delivered in schools and community settings across Craven for ages 4 to 25.
Counselling
Time‑limited, confidential, 1:1 therapeutic intervention that helps children and young people explore emotions and experiences, develop coping skills, and improve emotional wellbeing. Delivered in schools and community settings across Craven for ages 4 to 25.
Group support
Wellbeing Cafes
Small groups for children & young people seeking support for their mild to moderate mental health needs. A safe space to talk to a trained professional, explore emotions, devise coping strategies and engage in peer-support. Delivered in community settings across Craven for ages 7 to 19.
Wellbeing Warriors
A ten-week programme aiming to develop emotional intelligence and create positive coping strategies to help children manage their emotions. Delivered in small groups during the school day at primary schools across Craven.
