
SELFA offer a programme of more than 20 peer support & social action groups each week for children and young people during school term-time in Skipton, Bentham and Settle.
The groups cater for different ages, needs and abilities.
PRIMARY SCHOOL AGE GROUPS
Bentham Primary Club, Community Champs, Settle Primary Club: These groups are all about children having fun while giving back to their community. The programmes are child-led, with activities designed and shaped together. They offers children a chance to enjoy themselves, discover their voices, and feel proud of the difference they can make.
Children get the chance to build friendships, gain a sense of belonging, develop leadership and teamwork skills, and grow confidence in sharing their ideas. They also take part in social action projects (litter picking in the park, making posters about kindness and baking treats for local key workers).
Inspire: SELFA Inspire is a transition group for Year 6 children and is designed to help children prepare for the move to secondary school. The group gives children tools to navigate high school and helping them feel ready, confident, and connected.
Inspire gives children the chance to: Share worries and experiences in circle time, build confidence and independence for life in secondary school, and learn practical skills to manage new routines and challenges. They will take part in team games and problem-solving activities and make new friendships with other children moving up together.
SELFA Starters: SELFA Starters is a safe and caring space where children can take part in mini projects such as learning about our local environment and helping the community. Social action is be a theme throughout, helping children to learn how they can make a difference in their own way. Children can learn and practise key social skills through friendship games and build confidence to speak up during circle time.
Smile Project: Children and young people aged 8 to 10 spend time with older members of the community. The Smile Project is all about building friendships across generations. Children take part in activities such as: Sharing stories and experiences, learning from each other along the way, arts and crafts, cooking and baking, games and quizzes and seasonal projects like bulb planting. They get the chance to develop confidence, empathy, and a sense of belonging in their community.

SECONDARY SCHOOL AGE & YOUTH
Bentham Youth Club, Youth Action, Settle Youth Club: These groups give young people the chance to: Connect with peers and develop a sense of belonging, plan and lead social action projects in their local area and make improvements in the community. The creative and practical projects, such as awareness campaigns, community events, or fundraising activities, allow young people to work on their confidence, teamwork and communication skills.
Go Wild Youth: SELFA Go Wild is a group for young people aged 15 to 19 who love the outdoors and want to get hands-on with nature. Participants can take part in outdoor adventures, explore hidden spots and complete team activities. They will also learn about the environment and work on projects like planting, creating wildlife habitats and community clean-ups, to build teamwork skills, confidence, and problem-solving skills.
SELFA Wellness Group: SELFA Wellness is a group for girls aged 11 to 19 who would like to focus on their wellbeing and self-care. They can explore feelings and emotions in a safe and supportive space, take part in mindfulness and relaxation activities and enjoy arts, journaling and crafts. Girls can also join in activities like karaoke and team games. It helps girls to build resilience, develop coping skills and feel calmer and more confident.
Youth Board: Youth Board works to embed the six principles of youth social action across SELFA, ensuring activities are: Youth-led, challenging, have a social impact, allow for progression to other opportunities, are embedded in a young person’s life, and enable reflection about the value of the activities. The group offers peer support, promotes youth voice and co-design as well as building confidence to speak up and make a difference in their community.
WELLBEING CAFES & YOUNG ADULT
Bentham Wellbeing Cafe, Settle Wellbeing Cafe, Monday & Tuesday Wellbeing Cafe: These are safe, supportive places where children and young people can get confidential support and advice, find a listening ear, and take part in activities to improve wellbeing. They are welcoming spaces designed to help young people feel heard, valued, and empowered. With a focus on emotional health, this group encourages positive relationships, resilience, and self-care through creative, social, and therapeutic activities tailored to individual needs.
YOUNG ADULTS
Springboard: SELFA Springboard is a group for young adults aged 18 to 25 offering weekly term-time sessions in Skipton focused on building confidence, self-esteem, and achieving goals through various activities, including peer support and personal development. The programme also supports their health and wellbeing, and participants develop skills to make a positive impact in their community.
SEND & PARENTS
SELFA Leaders, SELFA Sensational, SELFA Shine, SELFA Sunshine, SELFA Superstars: These are sensory groups for SEND children who need a high level of support, which promote free play, turn taking and help children build positive friendships. At the group, we offer rebound therapy but also deliver activities such as baking, sensory play, crafts and music.
SELFA Parents Group: A weekly peer support group for parents, focused around health topics (such as healthy eating, the importance of exercise, managing stress). The group is delivered with key health partners who we have an established relationship with at SELFA.
