Did you know that 50% of mental health problems start by the age of 14?
It’s Place2Be’s Children’s Mental Health Week and SELFA will be getting involved and taking part in this year’s theme: ‘Express Yourself’. Place2Be launched its first Children’s Mental Health Week in 2015, to shine a spotlight on the importance of children and young people’s mental health.
This year’s theme is ‘Express Yourself’. This week, Place2Be wants schools, youth groups, organisations and individuals to express themselves. This is all about finding ways to share feelings, thoughts, or ideas through creativity. This could be through art, music, writing, poetry, dance, drama, photography or film. The aim is to take part in activities that make you feel good and SELFA will be getting involved! Look out for what we’re doing on our socials this week.
The importance of our children’s mental health has never been higher with statistics showing that the prevalence of mental disorders in 5 to 15-year-olds has risen from 9.7% (1999) to 10.1% (2004) to 11.2% (2017). We must support our children where we can to ensure that this number does not continue to rise.
Below is a list of resources for teachers, parents and carers to make it easier to get involved in this vital week for our children and their mental health.
