SELFA Social recieves £3,600 from Sovereign Health Care

Sovereign Health Care is based in Bradford and has a long history of charitable giving – in the last eight years they have donated more than £5 million to good causes.

We are pleased to share the good news that SELFA has been awarded a grant from their Community Programme for £3,600 to help fund one of our youth programmes ‘SELFA Social’.

SELFA Social is a user-led project for young people aged 11-19 which aims to reduce social isolation, develop life skills, foster friendship groups and increase independence, build confidence and raise self-esteem.

The young people attend a termly planning meeting to discuss and plan evening and weekend activities. Then SELFA staff help and support these small groups to carry out their plans, accompanying them on the activity but the group take control of budgeting, planning and transport etc. Activities last year included tag rugby, pottery, yoga, bowling, cinema nights, ice-skating, camping and trampolining. The group also get involved with fundraising for special activities and last year took part in the Skipton Santa fun-run, sold mince pies and packed bags in Morrisons!

This grant will help support the 50 young people who will attend over the next 12 months.
