SELFA have been awarded a grant for £2795 from the D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust for our young carers camp. This will allow 16 young carers a 2 night Forest School camping trip during the Summer holidays.
SELFA currently have referrals for over fifty children and young who are caring for parents or siblings with mental or physical health problems. They often come to SELFA for a break from their challenging home circumstances, an opportunity to mix with other young people, try new things and have fun.
The camping trip will provide an opportunity for a longer break away, where they will be able to socialise with other children who are facing similar challenges. They will be able to try new activities, gain new skills and build their confidence and self-esteem.
The D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust funds United Kingdom Registered Charities operating in the UK in the fields of the advancement of the arts, health and medical welfare and environmental protection or improvement.
Dame Bridget D’Oyly Carte (1908-1985) established The D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust in 1972 to support her personal interests which included her enjoyment of theatre, music and gardening, and, in particular, helping disadvantaged and disabled children. Today, the Trust continues her legacy through its three grant programmes: Arts, Medical Welfare and Environment.
